Name: Ales Mansay ("The Magician")
Age: Unknown, assuming 33
Gender: Male
Canon: Rayman
Canon Point: Immediately after the ending of Rayman Origins
History: Rayman wiki article
Personality:
Ales is a salesman. He's flamboyant, fast-talking (and fluent in Pig Latin, speaking so quickly and blending syllables easily that very few people can understand him), and ready to trade items and services as long as he benefits from it. These items are usually collectables within the game.
He is a very good manipulator. While in the first Rayman games, his cheerfulness and helpfulness towards the hero was straightforward, he later used his previous relationship to promote an outward image of another goofy character to hide his plans to overthrow Polokus the Bubble Dreamer, the creator of the world and considered a sort of living god.
As he observed the constant cycle of Polokus dreaming up some danger and being unable to protect the Glade, with Rayman having to rescue it again and again, Ales grew to resent the Bubble Dreamer and the current structure of the world. It was too chaotic and silly for his liking. This has caused Ales to have an extreme preference for discipline over lax rules, and dislikes nonsense and disorder. Eventually, this led to a dislike of magic, since it was too inexplicable and random to be depended on for the world to function, and part of his goal in overthrowing Polokus was the rid the world of magic, ushering in a new era of mechas.
One of his biggest influences for turning to villainy was Mr. Dark, the villain of the original game. According to Ales, Mr. Dark had style, and he was serious enough to almost successfully destroy the foundations of the world. Ales modeled himself after him, and prefers the "mysterious and dark" aesthetic of villains over heroes.
Because Ales had no magical abilities, unlike normal Teensies, he turned his focus to the sciences. He did his own research on the workings of the world and on technology, eventually becoming a self-taught mechanical genius. While he still traded items to the main characters in Rayman Origins, he secretly built a steampunk fortress in the sky and robots ranging from human-sized drones to monstrous mechas, all powered by Lums he received. He had also invented two different flying contraptions: a personal heli-pack and giant Lum/bicycle-powered zeppelins.
Like other Teensies, Ales still has a fondness for dancing and partying. Usually they integrate it into their magic rituals as well as for goofing of, but Ales does it for his own pleasure and use. In the reveal of Rayman Origins, he distracts the heroes by starting an impromptu disco dance party, taking advantage of their silly nature to give himself a head start in escaping.
His tendency to hide his true goals does not mean Ales can’t develop friendships. One of his few friends back home was Betilla the Fairy, one of the oldest nymphs in the Glade. Back when he still sincerely worked for the heroes, the two would frequently meet at her house to discuss a variety of intelligent topics. While Ales still will withhold information regarding secret plans from friends, if he feels that they are grounded enough in real life, he will enjoy their company.
Third-Person Sample: Test Drive
Mognet Sample 1:
Fellow Hero,
Got some extra loot you want to sell? Need to trade one set of goodies for another? Looking to buy some information? Come to the grand opening of The Store of Serendipity, currently situated in the 14th District! I looks forward to doing business with you!
-Ales Mansay
Mognet Sample 2:
[A private letter]
Look, I've been spending this entire week holed up in the library while everyone else runs willy-nilly all over the country, and carrying books back home is pretty hard when you're the size of a Moogle. If we want to get any research done, you'll have to pitch in or help me get the resources.
So how about it? Try putting in good word for me at the university or whatever.
-Ales
Crystallis
Moogle Name: Miriam ("Mimi")
Moogle Gender: Female
First Job: Scholar
Second Job: Blacksmith
Limit Break: Escape the Dance
Based off of this ridiculous sequence in Rayman Origins.
A funky disco beat appears out of nowhere, and Ales begins to dance, encouraging party members and any other willing bystander to join in (or just stare in confusion). The enemies are unable to comprehend all this sweet dancing and flashing lights, and ones it's over, they are unable to move for 5 minutes, and all party members get their magical points restored.
